Seed sampling training course 9-12 March 2015

Registration closes: 20th February 2015 NEW FLYER NOW AVAILABLE INCLUDING PROGRAMME

A four day training course on seed sampling for phytosanitary analyses will be organized in the framework of the TESTA dissemination activity.

The aim of the training course is to give delegates a detailed knowledge on seed sampling methods, strongly based on mathematical-statistical relevance, in order to develop seed sampling strategies allowing maximum accuracy and robustness for pathogen detection in seed lots. The training course will be organized in collaboration with CRA-SCS (formerly known as ENSE, the National Agency for Seed Quality of Italy), using the premises made available in Bologna for seminars, and under the auspices of Assosementi (the Italian Association of Seed Industry), with extensive and practical sampling activity made in three industrial stores and on different seeds (cereals, vegetables, pulse).

Applicants are invited to register as soon as possible and will be selected on the basis of their and functions in public institutions, publicly and private funded organizations and private companies. For registration write to: emilio.stefani@unimore.it

Seed Health - training course at NIAB on 27-28th January 2015

Registration closes: 9th January 2015

A two day training course on methods for detecting seed-borne disease in arable crops:

The project will deliver five training courses, with applicants selected on the basis of their background skills and functions in both private and publicly funded organisations.

The aim of the course at NIAB will be to give delegates a detailed knowledge of the importance of seed-borne diseases in arable crops in northern Europe, their epidemiology and the regulations controlling their incidence in seed, and training in the detection methods that have been developed or validated during the project. In addition, a range of other seed-borne diseases in cereals, oilseed crops and pulses will be detailed and test methods described.

2nd Project meeting in Leiden, The Netherlands

2nd Project meeting in Leiden, The Netherlands

On January 14-15 2014 the second meeting of TESTA was hosted by Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, The Netherlands, one of the partners of the TESTA-project. Experts of all 13 partners attended the meeting as well as representatives of the advisory board.

John van Ruiten, the director of Naktuinbouw welcomed all partners and informed them about the broad activities at Naktuinbouw in inspection, breeders rights and seed health testing. During the meeting the progress of the first year in all 7 work packages was presented by the work package leaders together with an outlook for the coming year(s). Good news was that although the availability of contaminated seeds was considered a risk for several workpackages within TESTA, for most projects contaminated seed was available or produced by now. Contact with the industry was very important in this respect, as well as for the workpackage on disinfection research and validation of seed health methods. Within the TESTA project the annotated list of seed-transmitted diseases is being updated on the ISTA website, a large, important project for the industry and it is agreed now to work in collaboration with International Seed Health Initiative for Vegetable crops (ISHI-Veg) on this.

The program also allowed time for discussion in small groups on work package level, for the management board meeting and reflections by the advisory board. The evening program gave opportunity to take more time to get to know each other and talk in small groups on TESTA and other matters while enjoying a walk through the historic centre of Leiden and a nice dinner. The interesting two-day meeting ended with tours of the seed health laboratory and the greenhouses of Naktuinbouw.

For more information see www.seedtesta.eu. The program and full presentations can be found on the member’s site.
