EPPO Conference on Diagnostics for Plant Pests

The EPPO Secretariat is pleased to announce that the next EPPO Conference on Diagnostics will be held in Angers on the 30th November – 2nd December 2015. Half of this conference will be dedicated sessions on the EU FP7 Testa project Seed health: development of seed treatment methods, evidence for seed transmission and assessment of seed health and associated workshops will be held on the 3rd - 4th of December.

The programmes for the sessions are available:

TESTA (30th November and 1st December)
EPPO (1st and 2nd December).

Presentations from TESTA seed sampling training course (March 2015)

A four day training course on seed sampling for phytosanitary analyses was organized in the framework of the TESTA dissemination activity by UNIMORE. The aim of the training course was to give delegates a detailed knowledge on seed sampling methods, strongly based on mathematical-statistical relevance, in order to develop seed sampling strategies allowing maximum accuracy and robustness for pathogen detection in seed lots. The training course was organized in collaboration with CRA-SCS (formerly known as ENSE, the National Agency for Seed Quality of Italy), using the premises made available in Bologna for seminars, and under the auspices of Assosementi (the Italian Association of Seed Industry), with extensive and practical sampling activity made in three industrial stores and on different seeds (cereals, vegetables, pulses).

Agenda
Statistics - how should we sample for detecting pathogens and pests in seed lots? Roy Macarthur (Fera, York, UK)
Sampling activity in the framework of TESTA - Mauro Dal Pra (Department of Life Sciences, UNIMORE, Italy)
Diversity of seed-borne bacteria and consequences for detection stategies - Marie-Agnes Jacques, INRA, Angers, France)
Phytosanitary issues related to vegetable seeds - Eleonora Barioni (Regional Phytosanitary Service, Regione Emilia Romagna Italy)
Fusarium graminarium - an overview - Mauro Dal Pra (Department of Life Sciences, UNIMORE, Italy)
Fusarium mycotoxins: risks in the wheat production and food chain - Antonio Prodi, University of Bologna, Italy)
ISTA Sampling rules - Rita Zecchinelli (CRA-SCS and ISTA Executive Committee)
Future challenges for the seed sector - Marco Nardi (ASSOSEMENTI, Bologna, Italy)

Workshop on seed health, Turin, Italy

On the occasion of third TESTA annual meeting in Turin, Italy, on January 12-13 2015, the University of Turin's centre of competence Agroinnova organised a workshop open to Italian stakeholders on January 14 2015, dealing with the diagnostics of seed-borne pathogens, seed disinfection methods, and main emerging seed transmitted diseases in the vegetable sector.
