International Dairy Federation

The International Dairy Federation (IDF) represents the global dairy sector and ensures the best scientific expertise is used to support high quality milk and nutritious, safe and sustainable dairy products.

IDF’s vision is to help nourish the world with safe and sustainable dairy. The growing world population needs nutritional security, and we must provide this both safely and sustainably. IDF provides a mechanism for the dairy sector to reach global consensus on how to help feed the world with safe and sustainable dairy products.

As the peak body for the global dairy sector, IDF has an important role to play in ensuring the right policies, standards, practices and regulations are in place to achieve this goal. In close cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), IDF has established a joint IDF/ISO work programme for the development of standard methods of analysis and sampling for milk and milk products.

IDF has also working relationships with several global intergovernmental organizations, and has a formal status with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme – Codex Alimentarius.

Making a Difference with Dairy

I’m delighted to invite you to Belfast for the IDF World Dairy Summit 2017. The dairy industry is a key sector within food and agriculture in the UK. Our dairy farmers and processors strive for excellence in quality, safety efficiency, innovation and sustainability. We are acutely aware that we are part of an industry that helps to feed the world with nutritious dairy foods, and that comes with a responsibility to our consumers, our animals and our planet.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Belfast for an exciting and thought provoking summit alongside some great social events.

Authentomics - Using big data to identify food fraud – spotting the unknown unknown

Authentomics - Using big data to identify food fraud – spotting the unknown unknown

Food fraud is estimated to cost the UK food and drink industry up to £11 billion per year and also has the potential to be a major food safety issue. Food fraud covers a broad definition and can include dilution or substitution, adulteration, mislabelling, or misinterpretation or deliberate tampering.
As fraudsters are developing more sophisticated ways of adulterating food, analysts need to be able to identify whether the food is genuine. Modern analytical techniques are capable of identifying known contaminants at very low levels but the emphasis on this meeting will not be on identifying specific contaminants but on identifying whether the food is entirely what it says it is.
There are a plethora of techniques and methodologies used in food analysis from the robust and routine to the new, novel and developing. Techniques that can profile samples, whether portable or lab based, are being increasing employed and could prove invaluable tools in the fight against food fraud.

Confirmed speakers include;
Kate Kemsley from IFR, Sophie Rollinson from Defra Nick Byrd from Campden BRI,

If you would like to contribute to the meeting though presentation or sponsorship please contact a meeting organiser: either Mike saltmarsh (mike@inglehurst.co.uk) or Kathy Ridgway (Kathy. Ridgway@anatune.co.uk)
The deadline for Submission of abstracts is Jan 31st 2017 Oral, Posters and short/flash presentations welcome – please specify your preference when submitting.

Metrology in measurements of stable isotopes of light elements : traceability, uncertainty and comparability

Objectives

The Fondazione Edmund Mach (FEM) and Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI) are organising a training course on stable isotope metrology. New applications and new analytical technologies in stable isotope research have resulted in a change to the measurements and standards infrastructure needed to ensure data
Integrity. Making accurate and precise measurements of stable isotopes is challenging, since analytical methods cannot be properly validated given that lack of certified reference materials and/or reference methods. Uncertainty propagation in measurements, both for reference material characterization and for everyday
laboratory practice will be discussed. The training course aims to provide participants with the skills required to produce quality assured stable isotope ratio
data for environmental and food samples. Both theory and practice will be combined throughout the course to give participants the opportunity to put concepts learned into practice.
