Winter Wheat Survey

Winter Wheat Survey

Survey of commercially grown winter wheat

Wheat is the most important crop in England and Wales in terms of area grown and fungicide use. Annual surveys of winter wheat diseases have been conducted since 1975, and provide continued and up-to-date information on the status of diseases.

National pest monitoring has now been incorporated into the CropMonitor project. Approximately 50 crops will be assessed at the early flowering (GS61) and watery ripe (GS71) growth stages for incidence of cereal aphids.

Approximately 300 crops will be assessed annually during the early to medium milk development stage (GS73 - 75). Twenty-five tillers from each crop will be examined for stem, leaf and ear diseases. Background agronomic information will be collected for each crop.
