What to do upon discovering a plant pest or disease
Certain pests and diseases are not present in the UK, but could be very damaging if they were allowed to establish. In addition, there are some serious pests and diseases (such as Potato Cyst Nematode) that are present in the UK, but measures are in place to prevent their spread. These are called quarantine pests and diseases and Fera needs to be notified of any findings so action can be taken against them. If you suspect that such a pest or disease is present, you should report it immediately to your local Plant Health and Seeds Inspector.
Other pests and diseases may already be present in the UK, or have been assessed to be non-damaging. In such cases there is no notification requirement, but Fera's Plant Clinic can provide a commercial diagnostic service. Information about certain notifiable and non-notifiable pests and diseases is available here.
