Yorkshire's innovating Winners announced

Yorkshire and Humber's six most innovative organisations were announced last night at a prestigious awards ceremony in Leeds, after beating off stiff competition from across the region. The Knowledge Exploitation Award, was presented to the York based Central Science Laboratory as it meets real market needs in the food security, environmental protection and climate change sectors, helping to ensure their future growth.

High incidence of Light Leaf Spot in Winter oilseed rape

A Defra funded survey, recently carried out by CSL into commercially grown oilseed rape, indicates that levels of light leaf spot so far this growing season are the highest since the epidemic year of 1995.
Safer food through rapid tests for chemical contaminants

Safer food through rapid and cost-efficient tests for detecting chemical contaminants in food and animal feed. This is the major goal of a new European research project called CONffIDENCE.
£4.3 million bee health funding increase announced

An extra £4.3 million to safeguard and undertake more research into the health of bees was announced by Environment Secretary Hilary Benn today. Mr Benn said that nearly £2.3 million over the next two years would support the work of the National Bee Unit in its efforts to help England's beekeepers deal with the problems facing their bee colonies.

Rothamstead Nematode Collection moves to Central Science Laboratory

As a result of long-term changes in the research priorities within the Nematode Interactions Unit at Rothamsted Research, the Rothamsted Nematode Collection (RNC) and responsibility for its future curation and development has recently been transferred to the Nematology Team in the Plant Health Group at Central Science Laboratory (CSL).
