Symposium programme

A provisional version of the Symposium Programme is now live.

Symposium overview

The 13th Fera/JIFSAN symposium will bring together industrial stakeholders, academic and government scientists to explore the potential impact of 'omics' technologies in the food sector. Genomic and post-genomic technologies, such as metabolomics and proteomics, have been at the forefront of biotechnology in the health, pharmaceutical and crop science sectors. However, the potential for the use of these technologies in the food sector is still largely unrealised.

In this meeting, international speakers from government, academia, research institutes and industry will present work that demonstrates the step changes that 'omics' technologies can deliver in their respective sectors. Posters and presentations will be invited on applied aspects of integrated 'omics' approaches and more generally in the uses of non-targeted analysis in supporting sustainable and healthy food production. The technical aspects of the symposium will be supplemented by consumer and policy perspectives relevant to the food industry and regulators.

Symposium Themes:

  • 'Omics' technologies: state of the art
  • Application of 'omics' technologies in food science
    • Chemicals in food chain
    • Biotraceability
    • New product development
    • Sustainable food production
  • Potential of 'omics' technologies: industry and regulatory perspectives
