  • UK citizens
  • Commonwealth citizens
  • British protected persons
  • Nationals of other European Economic Area (EEA) member states
  • certain non EEA family members who are entitled to EEA family permits
  • nationals of other countries who are granted an aliens certificate

If you are unsure whether you are eligible to apply please view the civil service eligibility guidance here or contact us.

Nationality (immigration status)

This may be confirmed on sight of a passport/birth certificate. For some nationalities a work permit may also be required.

Identity

You will be asked to bring your passport or birth certificate to the interview to confirm identity. Qualifications will be verified by sight of original certificates.

Applicants with a disability

Fera subscribes to the Guaranteed Interview Scheme which means that any applicant with a disability who meets the minimum essential criteria for the post will be interviewed. Probation All new entrants are subject to an initial probationary period of eight months.

Outside Activities Civil Servants may not take part in any activity which may conflict with the interests of their department or be inconsistent with their official position. There are also terms restricting any involvement with local or national politics and the civil service may not employ any member or associate of the Communist Party or a fascist organisation.

Pre-employment checks

Any appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks, including satisfactory health clearance, references and security checks.

Health Declaration

Fera needs to be sure that you can give regular and effective service if appointed and to establish this we require some details about your health record. If you are invited for interview you will be asked to complete a health declaration. This information will only be inspected after you are recommended for appointment. The health of each candidate is considered individually and no decision to reject a candidate on medical grounds will be made without medical examination and/or professional advice.

As outlined on the health declaration if you give any information on your health declaration that you know can be false - or if you withhold any information - your appointment may be rejected (or if already appointed, you may be dismissed).

We will write to take up references once you have accepted the offer of the post.
